Chartered Management Institute benefits

Supporting your career development and getting professional recognition

OUBS has teamed up with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) to offer alumni preferential routes to Chartered Manager status as well as discounted membership, providing a wide range of services that will support your management career.

CMI is the only Chartered professional body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence, and shares our philosophy of practical, applied management development.

If you are not yet eligible to become a Chartered Manager, you can still get access to CMI membership to support your journey to Chartered status by becoming an Affiliate member at a discounted price.

Become a Chartered Manager

Chartered Manager (CMgr) is a highly prestigious status that can be achieved in the managerial profession. It demonstrates managerial competence and functional ability and provides recognition of professional management capability. Chartered Managers are consistent high performers, committed to best practice and ethical standards.

Why you should become Chartered Manager?

  • To support your career and personal development and enhance your employability and workplace impact
  • To improve your earnings potential
  • To add a further practical dimension to your learning or provide additional recognition to your previous learning
  • To provide a structure for CPD and support your life-long learning
  • To help you become a better manager and leader

Being a Chartered Manager also gives you access to the full suite of CMI membership services. You can view the full range of member benefits on the CMI website.

Eligibility and how to become Chartered Manager

CMI recognises the OU MBA Stage 1 (B716 or its predecessors) and the current B870/B872 as meeting the qualification requirements for Chartered Manager.  Therefore on successful completion of any of these modules, plus three years’ management experience, you are eligible to apply via the full assessment route.

MBA course outputs can be used in support of the Chartered Manager work-based application, which can be via written submission (usually less than 10 hours of time required to complete) or via professional discussion (usually less than 4 hours of time required to complete).

Depending on your experience, you can apply to be either a Chartered Member (CMgr MCMI) or a Chartered Fellow (CMgr FCMI).
