The Open University Business and Law Schools recently enjoyed a double celebration for the achievements of our fantastic students and alumni.
The annual awards did not take place in 2020 due to the pandemic but returned in a mainly online ceremony to commend the exceptional achievements of high-calibre Business and Law (including Open Justice Centre) students and graduates from the previous two academic years.
They also honoured some of the Business School’s alumni who have made an outstanding contribution to an organisation or to society. These included this year’s winner David Monk, an NHS senior manager and Associate Medical Director for the St John Ambulance, and the 2020 recipient Maggie Miller, a successful businesswoman and long-time chair of the Business School’s International Advisory Board (IAB).
Carol Sherriff (Associate Dean, Student Experience and Teaching Delivery) was the master of ceremonies on-campus in Milton Keynes. She was supported in-person by Professor Devendra Kodwani, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL), and Dr Anne Wesemann (Head of the Law Department). There were also recorded insights from Professor Siv Vangen, who became Head of the Business School in February, and Martin Wardhaugh, the new chair of the Business School’s Alumni Council, who showed he might also have a career in broadcasting!
The winners were selected from thousands of candidates in dozens of countries and are available to view on our celebratory Business School and Law School webpages.
I wish all winners warmest congratulations on your much deserved awards. Joining our thriving alumni community means you become an ambassador for this great institution. We’d love you all to spread the word about how you have enjoyed studying with The Open University and how it has benefited you in life and your career.”
Professor Devendra Kodwani
Executive Dean, Faculty of Business and Law (FBL)
The triple-accredited Open University Business School is the first choice for a wide spectrum of students and we would love for even more to reap the benefits of continuous and lifelong learning. I congratulate all the deserved award winners. You are our ambassadors and I know we can continue to rely on your support in promoting the OU and the Business School.
Professor Siv Vangen
Head of the OU Business School
It’s fantastic to see our students graduate and to achieve competitive scholarships, pupillages and to follow their dreams for a legal career. We watch with pride and feel so very, very honoured ourselves. You are part of our journey as much as we are part of yours – your success truly reminds us of why we’re doing what we’re doing every single day.
Dr Anne Wesemann
