Meet one of the stars of the International Open Diaries – Tillmann Henssler

Tillmann filming at Pfizer

MBA alumnus Tillmann Henssler from Germany was chosen for The Open University’s new ‘International Open Diaries’ marketing campaign this summer.

The 52-year-old from Berlin, a sourcing manager for Pfizer, is a multi-award winner for his work as a disability champion. He is committed to raising awareness and helping to reduce unconscious bias towards people with disabilities.

Earlier this year, he was one of only 33 business school graduates worldwide honoured by AACSB International (AACSB), the world’s largest business education alliance, as the 2019 Class of Influential Leaders. This annual challenge recognises notable alumni from AACSB-accredited schools whose inspiring work serves as a model for the next generation of business leaders.

Tillmann was the only OU alumni selected – and the only OUBS representative – as part of the International Open Diaries film project. The five short films also illustrate other remarkable journeys from students in South Africa, the Philippines, India, and an Irish expat in Hungary. They offer a unique insight into what it is like for OU students living, studying and working in different countries and continents around the world.

I’m very proud to have been given the opportunity to take part in this project which was very exciting and great fun. It involved filming me in Berlin for three full days at the Pfizer offices, at home and in my leisure time. My episode is the third in the series and is called ‘Invest in your future’. I highlighted the flexibility of The Open University’s qualifications, the opportunities for career and life transformation, and the quality of the support services from my perspective.

The inspiration for this major new marketing campaign with BBC Worldwide was the successful original UK Open Diaries films launched in 2018.

Tillmann has also been interviewed on his thoughts for a new OUBS marketing course called Understanding customers (B206) and its B2B buying behaviour (Block 5) element. The new course will start in October 2019 and has 60 credit points. Tillmann (pictured) once more enjoyed being filmed inside and outside of Pfizer’s German headquarters in Berlin.
