With artificial intelligence (AI) able to make strategic decisions, it could operate interconnected factories, rather than having a need for the current workforce. 

What it will mean for mankind and how will we figure which future skills will we need? Is education is the key or will basic income provide the answers as a response to automation. 

In parallel to industry 4.0 is Blockchain technology, which can be thought of as a public distributed ledger which promises to revolutionise the financial world.  Will we need accountants or banks anymore? What other ways can Blockchain influence automation in society?

Dr Charles Barthold

Charles completed a Masters in Philosophy at the University of Paris-Panthéon-Sorbonne (2006-2008) and a Masters in Social Sciences at Sciences-po Paris (2007-2009). He was awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at the School of Management of the University of Leicester before joining The Open University Business School.

Robert's current research interests centers on regulation of new technologies within socioeconomic, political and legal contexts. Having presented his research at domestic and international conferences, his work has been published in legal and non-legal peer reviewed journals, edited collections, and via online portals including The Conversation and Critical Legal Thinking.
