Professional biography

Jo joined the Open University in 1999 and has worked in delivering the curriculum to diverse audiences.  She joined a newly created Unit in 2006 specifically targeted at non-accredited and corporate learning before re-joining the Business School in 2012 when the Executive Education unit was created.   Jo was part of the core team in the NHS Leadership Academy funded the Mary Seacole Programme.  In more recent years, she has been academic lead on several projects which have included the development of new virtual learning environments, specifically the International Funders Award and Open for Growth.

Jo holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Birmingham and an MBA and MA(ODE) from the Open University.

Research interests

From the number of years working with corporate and non-accredited learning, Jo's research is focused on how to create curiosity in learning, especially when learning is mandated.  This manifests in research into pedagogy, technology and gamification strategies as well as motivation and engagement of learners.

Teaching interests

Jo's teaching is orientated in management development and specifically targeted at learners who have excellent functional skills but need to develop management capability.
