OU MBA Alumna recognised in New Year Honours

The Open University Business School is delighted to congratulate Rachel Blackburn, one of its award-winning alumni, who has received an MBE in the King’s New Year’s Honours List.

Rachel, who holds an OU Master of Business Administration, received an MBE in this year’s list, for services to the Business Community and to Exports.

She is CEO of Norwich-based US2U Consulting Ltd and works with businesses around the world. Her MBE particularly references Rachel’s work with local, national and international businesses over many years to support their growth strategies. She has also supported a range of community organisations and helped advance the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion agenda in business and the community.

Highflyer who juggled work and study

Speaking after the announcement, Rachel said:

I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from His Majesty the King. This award is a reflection of the incredible support I have received from my team, my family, my clients, my friends and the broader community. Together we’ve made significant strides, and this honour will inspire us to continue pushing boundaries and making a positive difference.”

Highflyer Rachel left school at 16 to forge a very successful business career up to director level whilst juggling work and formal study. She gained two OU qualifications in Management as well as her Master of Business Administration, which she achieved in 2004. She is a former winner of The Open University Business School Student and Alumni Awards, and contributed her insight and advice to the popular OU webinar – How can business schools help create more racially diverse businesses?

Rachel adds:

I see the achievement of the OU MBA as a critical part of my journey towards being awarded the MBE. It has opened doors to so many opportunities not just through the competence gained but also via the confidence and credibility it has enabled in the UK and internationally.”

An MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) is a UK honour awarded for significant achievement or outstanding service to the community, typically in fields such as the arts, sciences, charity, public service or industry.
