International Human Rights Day is marked annually on December 10 to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adoption by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948. The theme of International Human Rights Day is Equality—reducing inequalities and advancing human rights. In effect, the theme implies eliminating all forms of discrimination to ensure fairness and equity in all our policies, processes, and practices.
The Open University (OU) developed the Black Leadership and Empowerment Programme (BLEP) in response to an approach by Inclusive Companies and other stakeholders. It is in line with the Social Mission of the OU. BLEP is a collaborative effort underpinned by the value of equity. It aims to support minority ethnic communities in developing the leadership capacity to ensure that they are equipped to play their part in processes aimed at promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity. The Open University's Centre for Voluntary Sector Leadership worked with Inclusive Companies, Autotrader, Manchester Airport Group and The Prince's Trust in piloting BLEP with the Manchester Hub in February this year.
CVSL invites you to attend this webinar to mark the conclusion of the first phase of the BLEP pilot. The keynote speaker will be Dr Shakenna Williams, Executive Director of Babson College’s Frank & Eileen Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (F&E CWEL). The centre, among other things, developed the Black Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (BWEL) programme, which will be of particular interest to BLEP participants, researchers, voluntary sector organisations, policymakers, and businesses, among other audiences.
