I completed my BSS programme in Economics at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and MA in Development and Labour Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in India.
My PhD project is a Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership (GUDTP) collaborative project between the Open University Business School and Textile Reuse and International Development (TRAID). The project utilizes social reproduction theory to explore the impact of childcare provision on women garment workers and their families in Bangladesh. The project specifically examines the impact of childcare provision enabled by TRAID, a UK charity that has, since 2013, funded and worked with partner Nagorik Uddyog (an NGO in Bangladesh) to run two day-care centres and two drop-in centres in Dhaka, Bangladesh for the children of garment workers. My motivation for undertaking this PhD project has been shaped by my experience. I worked for several NGOs in Bangladesh and successfully completed collaborative projects which aimed to accelerate gender equity and women’s rights in Bangladesh.
