Biography

Amber was born in Carlisle then moved to do her schooling in the west of Scotland. She attended the university of Glasgow where she received an MA in politics. Her particular focus was on political violence and social movements.

Involved in a range of subjects, Amber has taught ESOL to asylum seekers in Scotland as well as in secondary, primary and a school for blind children in Senegal. She went on to work in Further Education, teaching, providing pastoral support and safeguarding students. Here is where Amber begun her work within eSports, she worked with students, education providers and esports organisations to help create an inclusive environment within esports education.

Following this, Amber received a PhD studentship from The Open University to pursue her passion for making the esports industry an accessible and inclusive space.

Current Research

Women in the Games Industry: Organisational, Diversity and Inclusivity Perspectives

Women are underrepresented throughout eSports and often encounter a ‘glass monitor’ that halts opportunity and advancement (Darvin et al., 2021). This research aims to explore barriers and enablers women in the esports industry may face when in leadership positions.
