I am a Senior Lecturer in Organization Studies, based in the department of People and Organisations at the Open University Business School, faculty of Business and Law. Before joining the Open University in 2014 I have worked at Aston, Keele and Wolverhampton Universities. I am an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a Chartered Psychologist and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I have a wide experience of teaching and researching in the UK and overseas. I regularly present my work at academic conferences and I am frequently invited as guest speakers at academic and professional seminars and events. I have organised several conferences, conference streams and symposia. I am an associate editor of the journal Gender Work and Organization and regularly review for numerous journals. Since 2014 I am a visiting professor at the University of Cagliari (Italy) in the faculty of human sciences and have also taught in Libya and France.
My research interests and publications are in the fields of work and social inclusion, gender and sexuality in organisations, identities in the workplace, diversity, employee branding, management practices and higher education management. Recent projects have included studies on the experiences of sexual minorities in social enterprises, women entrepreneurs, employee branding in the service sector and feminism in the academy. An early area of research was team work. My research is grounded on critical theory and discursive perspectives. I have supervised four PhD students to successful completion and I am currently supervising four students: Gemma Bend, Marco Distinto, Caroline Micklewright and Rianne Ten-Venn.

My teaching interests and expertise is in the area of Organisational Behaviour, Leadership and Research Methods, at PhD, PG and UG levels. I have also taught courses on Contemporary Issues in HRM and Diversity at work. At the OU I have been the qualification lead for the MSc HRM and I have been the production chair and the main writer of the ‘Work-based Project’ (B865) and the Dissertation (B804) PG modules. I continue to be the chair of these two modules in presentations. I have also contributed to the production of several other modules. I have written various units of the modules: ‘The HR professional’ (B863) and ‘Workplace Learning, Coaching and Mentoring’ (B867), both modules are part of the MSc HRM, and I wrote the unit ‘The practices of HRM’ for the second year work-based Learning module part of the Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA). Between 2014 and 2016 I was a module team member in the UG module ‘Leadership and Change’ (B204).
