Professional biography

Dr. Loai Alsaid joined the Open University Business School as a Lecturer in Accounting in October 2017. He has an academic and industry experience covering a period of 17 years. Previously, he worked as a Lecturer and Scheme Lead for Accounting and Finance at Aberystwyth University (Mauritius Campus), University of Aberdeen (UK) and Beni-Suef University (Egypt). He worked as an educational consultant, instructor, ERP consultant and accountant in different industries, including pharmaceutical, banking, electricity and energy sectors. He completed his PhD in Accountancy at the University of Aberdeen (UK), MSc and B.com in Accounting at Beni-Suef University (Egypt). Dr. Alsaid is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK.

Research interests

My current research interests include management accounting, social theories and emerging economies. I have worked on various topics in accounting and finance such as accounting & structural reforms, political dynamics & organisational accounting change, public utilities & cost management change, CSR & firm value and learning styles & auditing errors.

I have published in academic journals of international excellence, including Critical Perspectives on Accounting (CPA) and Corporate Ownership and Control (COC). I have also completed two books and presented in leading and refereed conferences, including CPA, APIRA, AAAJ, BAFA, MARG and EAA.

I welcome high quality PhD applications in management accounting, public finance and emerging economies. My ongoing research focuses on accounting, military intervene and emerging Smart Cities.

Teaching interests

I have extensive teaching experience over last 17 years in various areas of Accounting and Finance, in particular Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Taxation, Auditing, Quantitative Skills & Methods, Financial Management & Corporate Policy, Corporate Finance & Financial Markets and Corporate Governance, Risk and Ethics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have also taught on full-time and executive MBA programmes, in particular Project Management and Globalisation. 

Impact and engagement

I am willing to relocate and to participate in departmental activities as required in line with the department’s objectives. I can take initiatives, have strong motivation and can inspire students. My experience studying and teaching in the UK, Mauritius and Egypt, puts me in a perfect position as a motivator and with my international background, could benefit the university’s future recruitment drives and academic collaborations.

I am a reviewer for Journal of Critical Perspectives on Accounting (ABS 3*), Corporate Ownership and Control (ABS 2*) and Palgrave Macmillan (Finance).

I have an extensive membership of leading professional associations in and outside the UK including British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA), Management Control Association (MCA) and European Accounting Association (EAA). ​

I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), UK.
